A new charity shop has opened in Leigh – staffed by workers with learning disabilities.
Cherish UK, the leading care provider in Wigan, is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Cherish Life Foundation charity shop at 14 Brown Street, Leigh. The quaint shop is stocked with designer clothes, shoes, and accessories.
This shop provides valuable paid work experience to individuals with learning disabilities in Leigh who are clients of Cherish UK’s Supported Living program. This experience is crucial for developing essential employability skills and gaining the confidence needed to succeed in their careers. The Cherish UK Supported Living team is dedicated to raising funds to support disadvantaged clients, and every penny raised is reinvested directly into benefits for the clients.
Keeleigh Porter, Head of Supported Living Services for Cherish UK, expressed, “I am extremely proud to be able to offer paid employment to our clients with learning disabilities and to help build their confidence and experience in a genuine retail environment. They are learning about customer service, maintaining the shop’s appearance, and handling real transactions, gaining experience with finances. This opportunity also allows them to interact with the public and showcase their capability and professionalism.”
